Buying Tips for Nursing Pillows
When buying a nursing pillow, keep the following in mind:
- If the nursing pillow case is dry clean only, it'll become inconvenient in a hurry. Make sure it's machine washable
and comes off easily. Some nursing pillow cases are also reversible. If the pillow doesn't have a case, make sure it's
flexible enough to fit inside the washing machine.
- A hypoallergenic fill minimizes the risk of the mother or baby being allergic to the nursing pillow.
- Neutral colors and calming patterns may be easier on the baby than a loud and busy decorative pillow case.
- The nursing pillow case should be very smooth so that it doesn't irritate the baby's skin. When testing the case's
surface, use your own cheek instead of your hand which may not detect any roughness as easily.
- Extra cases can often be purchased separately from the pillow which is convenient when one or more are in the wash.
- Nursing pillows that are designed to strap around the mother's body can be difficult to use, especially when only one
hand is available.
