We Know: About Milestone Network Camera Recording Software

Network Camera Recording Software

Network camera recording software is software designed to connect to one or more "network cameras" - these are digital video security cameras that connect to your wired or wireless computer network (LAN) and can typically be viewed one way or another outside the boundaries of the LAN, over the internet, with the right software and configuration. Network cameras are useful for home security and businesses of all sizes. among other applications. Network cameras typically come with software that allows you to view and record the activity but it's typically inferior software.

Other Network Camera Software Options

There are many better, more professional network camera sofware options out there, and many are low-cost or free, well-suited for small businesses of home users. One of the companies we looked at, Milestone, appeared to offer a robust program that supports at least 250 different network cameras and up to 64 at one time.

The Milestone Free License Offer that isn't

Milestone prominently featured a Free single camera license for their Professional product on their homepage. This allows you to use/try out the professional version of their software for free, for a single camera. This software normally retails for $395 USD. However, you have to submit a form to get access to the free license, which is not typically a problem, but you don't get it instantly. A salesperson called us back the next day and wanted to get more information and set up a call with another sales rep. So, it's not really an easy-to-use free license as they make it sound. If you are not serious about buying the software and want to set up and use a single camera for free, you either have to lead them along and convince them to give you a license key and installation instructions, or you probably won't get it. This is all by their design, naturally. We weren't able to actually obtain the free license to try out the software and write a review here, unfortunately.
