We Know: How to Buy Bedspreads or Coverlets
What is a bedspread or coverlet?
Bedspreads and coverlets are decorative covers for beds. A coverlet may be thinner than a bedspread, but not
necessarily. In addition to providing warmth, bedspreads and coverlets can change the look of a bed or an entire room.
Though they may be purchased in sets with other bedding, they are often purchased separately.
Coverlet and Bedspread Features
Coverlets and bedspreads may have one or more of the following features:
- Machine washable.
- Safe in the dryer.
- Quality stitching.
- Decorative trim or imprinted/woven design.
- Reversible. Can change the look of the bed or room.
- Hypoallergenic. Material that's hypoallergenic is less likely to cause problems for those suffering from allergies
or sensitive to microbes.
- High thread count. The higher the thread count, the softer and better quality the material.
- Filling. The filling contained within a bedspread or coverlet can affect the comfort level. Goose or duck
down is a popular fill because it's very soft but it's also expensive.
