ESL stands for English as a Second Language. These classes are taken by people who are interested in learning English in addition to the native language. Most ESL classes are available in beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels.
What skills do ESL classes teach?
ESL classes are meant to help the student improve skills on many different levels. The areas that are touched on include: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Any skills that are necessary to live and work in an English-speaking country are taught.
Where can I take ESL classes?
Classes are available in a variety of different places. If you are looking to physically go out and take a class you should contact your local college, university, or technical school. Many schools offer these classes both during the day and at night. ESL classes are also offered online.
How often are ESL classes taught and how long does the course take to complete?
The answer to this question depends on where and how you are fulfilling the course work. If you find a site that offers a class that meets five days a week, you will finish the course earlier. On the other hand, a night class that meets once a week will take considerably longer.
Am I qualified to take ESL classes?
In order to gain admittance to most ESL programs, you will have to take an entrance test which will allow you to be placed at the correct level of learning.
